Pirates on the field

After years of rooting for the Red Sox and the Phillies, my new favorite team is the Pirates...

After posting a photo of a Lansdale fisherman at the annual Forks of the Delaware fishing tournament at the convergence of the Lehigh and the Delaware Rivers in Easton, I wanted to go up and see it for myself, so I did on Sunday. I saw an angler take in what appeared to be a shad, but it was small and he threw it back.

I wanted to see the shad ladder on the Lehigh River at the convergance, but it was blocked by a park construction project. Maybe there's a secret way to see this?

If you don't know anything about shad and their annual run from Canada to the few un-dammed and un-laddered rivers we have left, check out the book "The Founding Fish" by John McPhee. You'll get a whole new appreciation for the waterways that we mostly take for granted.

Not everybody was there to catch fish. This photographer was taking photos of the bridges and dam with some serious medium-format camera gear.

Free animals

Stopped by the Elmwood Park Zoo last night during their free open house.

This guy was my screensaver for a while last year. I think he wants royalties this year.

Then went here for free ice cream (opening day). You know the place.

Got photos?

I get comments on the photos in this blog, but not so much about the yadda-yadda commentary. So in the spirit of 'give the people what they want,' here's some pictures.

First, a photo from Camp Delmont. If you are/were/a parent of a Scout, you know about this.

A wall next to my sister's house in Brooklyn. Did you know they have wild parrots up there? I am hoping one will nest in these vines.

This is some part of a fire truck in Worcester, taken by my son during the building dedication last week. He thought it looked cool, and so do I.

Baby pigs at Delaware Valley College. All together: "Awwwwwwww"

Some creek fishing. March just seems too early for the start of fishing season.
